Hey all! Its another year and I am super excited to read diverse genres and titles. Also, there are so many interesting books coming out this year and I have a list of releases that I can't wait for (which I will let you all know in the next week probably). Besides that, my tbr pile is ever growing and I have decided to jump into ten of them in the month of January. I am usually the one who picks up random books to read then and there but this year I've decided to set a dedicated to-read list each month. So let me give you a glance of my January reading plan.
Hippie by Paulo Coelho
The first book that I've already started reading this month is Hippie by Paulo Coelho. I've heard mixed reviews abut this book considering the other works of the author and to be noted is that this book is my first experience with Coelho.
Hippie is an auto-bigraphical novel which talks about the journey that Paulo takes up from Brazil to Amsterdam which destined him to meet Karla. Together they travel to Nepal in the magic bus for self-discovery and they fall for each other. This book also explains the life of the Hippie generation of the 60's who were considered weird for living against the typical life norms and for having free will. Its good as far as I've read and hope it stays the same.
Wicked fox and Vicious Spirits by Kat Cho
OMG!! I am finally doing this😁...Alright, so everyone knows about this duology (I guess its a duology though I am not sure) by Kat Cho. This is Korean inspired fantasy series in which the protogonist Gu Miyoung is a secret gumiho, a nine tailed fox and she needs the energy from men to survive. She does the hiding and hunting in a city called Seoul and on a full moon night, she stumbles upon Jihoon, a human boy being attacked by a goblin (Wow!!). And despite her guminho nature, Miyoung rescues Jihoon and there goes the plot.
I am freaking excited for reading them and hope it doesn't disappoint me as Asian inspired fantasies are something that I am yet to delve deeper.
Circle of Shadows and Cloak of Night by Evelyn Skye
I have no idea on what this series is about except that there is some elite group involved and the protagonists have some sort of magical power. There is war, betrayals, magic and super powers involved. I blindly got this book from the Flipkart sale as the price was low an year back and from then it was in my shelves untouched. I am about to get into it with no prior expectations and so lets see how it goes.
The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern
We all know that the Starless Sea was nothing but praised all through the book community. I've recently read the Night Circus by the same author and I was not blown away but I adored the love story, the concept, the writing and the characters a lot. I felt that the magic system was kind of complex and unclear.
Anyways, the Starless Sea deals with Zachary Rawlins who finds a mysterious book hidden in his university library. The book contains tales that is the recollection of his childhood and so in order to discover more about the secrets of the book, Rawlins follows the clues - a bee, key and a sword. This in turn leads him to a secret club, a labyrinth of stories through a secret gateway created by Mirabel... Thats it, isn't this enough to pick this book up?!
The Familiars by Stacey Halls
Fleetwood Shuttleworth is 17 year old, married and pregnant for the fourth time. Unfortuately, none of her previous children survived and so her husband Richard is conerned for heir. Fleetwood incidentally happens to read a letter from the doctor and discovers that she will not survive another pregnancy. Then comes Alice Grey, a midwife who promises that she will help Fleetwood in giving birth to the child. Alice gets involved in witchcraft accusations and she has much more secrets than what Fleetwood knows.
This book was a complete cover buy for me and then I came to know that it has a wonderful plot to it as well, lets see if it does justice.
Circe by Madeline Miller
Circe is a well-known greek mytholgy character and this book is a re-telling of the story of Circe. She possess the power of witchery and is banished to a deserted island by her father Zeus. The island has all the fascinating mythological creatures and being alone Circe gets to know them well. She is then put in a situation in which she has to make her choice between the gods she is born with and the creatures she loves to be with.
This book has so much potential in it and I hope it delivers what it is supposed to and ofcourse its one of the most loved books ever.
On the come up by Angie Thomas
Angie Thomas is well-known for the strong voices she put forth in her books. I have all the other books by the author in my wishlist.
So, On the Come Up is about sixteen year old Bri, daughter of a hip hop legend and she wants to become a great rapper. Her father is dead and this pushes her into a much more difficult situation and pressure. She puts in all her pain in her debut song which goes viral in wrong ways. This book takes us through the life of Bri and how being a black kid differentiates her life. I knew right from the beginning that this book is going to be powerful and full of harsh realities. I am looking forward to know more about Bri.
Becoming by Michelle Obama
Should I even introduce this book? I feel so anxious for this book. Its definitely something to be looking forward to read and I am in no way different. Becoming is a memoir by the former First Lady of the United States. She talks about her early life, experiences, family and much more in this book. I think it has everything that a reader will look for in a book and I can't wait to start with it soon.
That's the ten amazing books I have in my radar for the month of January and I am clueless about how this will turn out at the month end. I wish all of you a very happy new year and a wonderful month ahead. Happy reading!!!!
